Drones at the White House. And in Yemen.
On Tuesday, President Obama called for regulation on drones in the US, which was not because of the three killed in a drone strike by the C.I.A. on Monday, but because of the drone that accidentally crashed on the White House lawn. He believes that although there are many useful functions that come along with drones, they need to be regulated because of accidents like this.

State of the Union
During the State of the Union, Obama proposed a number of things that he believes will help the middle class and create a stronger economy. One of those things was keeping American jobs in the US and rewarding businesses that do this. He also talked about cutting taxes for low income families and how to make child care and education more affordable for those who need it. Another thing addressed was the Keystone pipline, and instead of having the single one he said that we should set our sights higher then just the one pipeline. Some other things he touched on we're veterans, Global Warming, and other things that have taken the backseat during his campaign.

In a Safer Age, U.S. Rethinks Its 'Tough on Crime' System

This article focuses exactly on what the title says, how crime is handled. There has been a significant decrease on crime in the past twenty years, something experts credit an aging population and a law created President Clinton in 1994 which expanded the death penalty and gave states billions to hire more police officers and to build more prisons. But at the same time they are trying to find a way to make sure this decrease in crime continues by creating more beneficial programs for recovering felons or even drug addicts. The topic of police controversy is even touched on and how police are trying to focus on smaller areas rather then looking at the big picture. Along with this, President Obama is creating a police task force that will most likely recommend increases in community policing.

Today the House voted to approve legislation that will take away legal protection for millions of undocumented immigrants. The article does not simply focus on this vote, but discusses the issues with immigration in the government. Republicans believe that the president is overstepping his boundaries and going against the constitution by amending laws on immigration on his own. Democrats on the other hand think that Republicans are not taking their responsibilities seriously and are creating a fight that does not need to happen in the first place. The main point of the essay is that there is a great amount of controversy with immigration and this legislation has created a lot more.

Boehner Facing Dissent and Defections in Vote to Remain Speaker of House

This article focuses on some of the recent weaknesses within the Republican party, as well as Speaker Boehner's reelection last week. The author talks a lot about how having control of the House and the Senate should make it an easy election, but Boehner's support has wavered leaving him with a lack of votes. Some Republican scandals are brought up, such as Steve Scalise's speech to white supremacists back in 2002, to further show how the Republican party is lacking in control and power. From there Boehner's continued lack in support and numbers is brought up, and the loss in votes is referenced once again. After that, the article continues to talk about what the weaknesses of the Republican party are and how they need to gain control of their leaders to create a better government.
